DS - Discovery Service

An onboarding service following GSMA standard to provide out-of-the-box experience for eSIM device customers.

EID - eUICC Identification

eUICC Identification – an unique identifier for eSIM that are embedded within device and used when contacting the operator.

eSIM - Embedded Subscriber Identity Module

Also known as embedded universal integrated circuit card (eUICC), is a form of programmable SIM that is embedded directly into a device.

eUICC - Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card

SIM embedded in device with capability of remote provisioning. Also known as eSIM.

ICCID - Integrated Circuit Card Identifier

A unique identifier for profile of eSIM that are embedded within and recognized globally.

IMEI - International Mobile Equipment Identity

A globally unique identifier (hard-coded in the handset).

IMSI - International Mobile Subscriber Identity

The basic structured identifier for the SIM/UICC in GSM mobile systems.

IoT - Internet of Things

Describes the network of physical objects, so known as, “things” — that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies that is used for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the Internet.

LPA - Local Profile Assistant

Functionalities present within the device to enable management of eUICC such as profile downloads, removal and switching between profiles.

LTE - Long Term Evolution

A standard for wireless broadband communication for mobile devices and data terminals, based on the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA technologies. Also known as 4G.

M2M - Machine-to-Machine

Profiles management for IoT devices with no user interaction using over-the-air provisioning.

MCC - Mobile Country Code

Used in combination with an MNC to uniquely identify a mobile network operator using the GSM.

MNC - Mobile Network Code

Used in combination with MCC to uniquely identify a mobile network operator using the GSM.

MNO - Mobile Network Operator

Provider of wireless communications services that owns or controls the elements necessary to sell and deliver services to an end user.

MSISDN - Mobile Station International Subscriber Dialling Number

A structured Identifier for the subscriber indicating his A-Number.

Multi-IMSI

Allowing an eUICC to contain multiple profiles (IMSIs) for e.g. local network access due to regulatory reasons.

MVNO - Mobile Virtual Network Operator

Wireless communications services provider that does not own the wireless network infrastructure over which it provides services to its customers but enters into a business agreement with a mobile network operator (MNO) to obtain bulk access to network services.

OE - Orchestration Engine

An orchestration layer that connects customers to SMDP+ which provides GSMA standard features and beyond i.e. My10T

OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer

Generally perceived as a company that produces parts and equipment that may be marketed by another manufacturer.

OTA - Over-the-Air

Secure and wireless method to update and manage contents of eSIM profile.

PIN - Personal Identification Number

A numeric password shared between an user and a system that can be used to authenticate network connectivity (eSIM) to the user’s device.

POC - Proof of Concept

Test phase to ensure a successful launch of production environment.

Pre-Production

Test eSIM Profiles Lifecycle Management for operators to perform testing.

Production

Actual eSIM Profiles Lifecycle Management for consumers usage.

Profile

Comprises of the operator data related to a subscription, including the operator’s credentials and potentially operator or third-party eSIM based applications and available on the eUICC. And required to enable mobile network connectivity.

PRP - Profile Reuse Policy

eSIM Profile setting that enables or disables the profile to be downloaded several times to the same or other devices.

PUK - PIN Unlock Key

A code to reset a personal identification number (PIN) in the event of PIN being lost or forgotten.

QR Code - Quick Response Code

A type of barcode that can be read easily by a digital device and which stores information as a series of pixels in a square-shaped grid.

RSP - Remote SIM Provisioning

Secure over-the-air provisioning of eSIM on embedded device.

SDK - Software Development Kit

A set of software tools, guidelines, and programs used by programmers and developers to create applications for a specific platform.

Service Provider (SP)

Provider of services and/or goods, which may require an actor authentication and/or transfer of actor information for purposes of a particular transaction.

SIM - Subscriber Identity Module

An application on the UICC that stores and handles the Subscriber identities (IMSI) and also the authentication and session key derive functions for GSM (A3/A8).

SIM Toolkit (SAT or STK)

Provides a set of commands which allow applications, existing in the UICC, to interact and operate with a mobile client which supports the specific command(s) required by the application. Using the SIM Toolkit, applications can be downloaded to the SIM in a secure manner.

SM-DP - Subscription Manager Data Preparation

The server-side platform of the M2M remote SIM provisioning architecture that acts on behalf of the network operator to securely store profiles in readiness for an allocation and download request. Upon establishing a secure session with the target eUICC, it executes their download and installation.
